For all collectors (and, in my opinion, even regardless of whether they like the character or not), only one adjective can fully qualify the Classic version the Black Panther: unmissable! Released in 2004 in 2000 units, this statue represents a wonderful example of the sculptural art of Randy Bowen and a real prototype of the perfect collectible which all the fans should always aim for. The elegant dynamic pose, the refined coloring (with continuous chromatic nuances between the black and a night-blue), the perfect sculpt and the crazy attention paid to details are the exceptional strengths of this piece. Black Panther shows an athletic and powerful body, with a musculature well-defined. although leaner compared to the Classic Museum version. The hero is placed on a rocky crag, full of moss and vegetation. The right leg is bent resting on the highest rock and the left extends backwards, while the bust is rotated in opposition to the head. The pose is dynamic and shows the sculptural physique of T'Challa in a masterful way. The visual impact is perfect, thanks to the perfect pectorals and biceps and the graceful and elongated legs. The sculptural details of the back are impressive, with well-defined muscle contours and the vertebrae clearly pointed out in the lower part of the column. The coloring is really superb, characterized by continuous shades all over the body and a very successful mix between a matte black and a dark, very intense blue. But the real strength of this piece is no doubt the base, wide and well finished, up to an astonishing level! The high rock which the sovereign of Wakanda stands on flaunts a sort of human aspect, probably of an ancient idol, while the other one at his feet shows the stylized face of a panther. A mantle of moss (shaded in an extraordinary way) partially covers the rocky area, while the lower part of the base is crowded everywhere with broad leafed plants and vines, whose colors (sometimes darker and sometimes brighter) gives an amazing visual impact. The statue can also count on some additional and fine decorations, as the snake placed at the side of the bottom rock and the small skull half-hidden by the vegetation in a rocky hollow, exhibiting, at the base, the initials often used by Randy to sign his own works. Generally speaking, the choices of any statues fan are often dictated by budget and space availability and rightly account for one's liking for the character; at the same time, it is evident that a figure as Black Panther can spark a limited interest in the vast world of Marvel superheroes. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the elegance and the incredible sculpt quality of this piece make it a true landmark and an unmissable must-have for any fan.
